About the exam:
The AP Microeconomics course focuses on the economic principles which apply to individual decision makers within an economic system. These decision makers include both producers and consumers. Emphasis is placed on the study of product markets, factor markets, and the role of government in promoting equity and efficiency within the economy. The class begins with a look at basic economic concepts and moves on to the function and nature of product markets, which is the major focus of this course. The final topics are factor markets, market failure, and the role of government.
The AP Microeconomics Exam format is:
Multiple-Choice (70 minutes, two-thirds of final grade)
-60 multiple choice questions
Free-Response (60 minutes including a 10 minute reading period, one-third of final grade)
-1 long free-response essay question
-2 short free-response essay questions
The college board recommends that students spend half their time on the long essay question and split their remaining time equally on the two short questions. The long question will generally involve several related content areas and the shorter ones will focus on a single area. Answers must demonstrate an understanding of general microeconomics principles and need to be well organized with clear explanations. Diagrams and graphs may be required as part of the answer, and must be correctly labeled. Certain questions may also require graphical interpretation and analysis.
When is the AP Microeconomics Exam?
The AP Microeconomics Exam date for the 2012/2013 school year is Thursday, May 16th 2013 at 12 p.m. The test is only offered once per year.
